EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE PRODUCT TYPES
An Equipment Maintenance Product Type is a generic product identifier that can be used to automatically select the correct items for a service based on Equipment Class.
The concept is simple and only really required if you plan to use IPM for creating detail service work orders. Essentially, a Product Type might be Engine Oil. The exact type and quantity of oil will vary based on the equipment. This approach allows the creation of a Service Template that can be used on Multiple types of equipment that have similar service requirements with the main difference being the actual parts or materials required to carry out the service.
By building up a catalog of Product Types it is possible to keep the maintenance of your service templates simple. The Product Detail required for a specific service for an item will be selected from the list of products associated with the Product Type at the time the service work order is generated.
